DrillingMaps.com, RefineryMaps.com, PowerPlantMaps.com & SolarEnergyMaps.com were inspired after listening to multiple groups of parents tell stories about sick kids and families living in close proximity to various oil and gas drilling, refining and energy operations. The maps aim to document health and safety concerns by residents all over the World in an effort to provide more transparency about the risks. This maps are to serve as a platform for people to express their safety concerns about oil operations that may be jeopardizing their health and safety.
Purpose of the Map
It has been well documented that there are many safety implications of breathing the air or drinking the ground water near oil and gas operations. However, oil companies still claim that these areas are safe and are not the cause of health related concerns many residents living near drilling sites are experiencing. Our map raises the awareness of various illnesses potentially caused by living in close proximity to oil drilling, natural gas fracking sites. Many illnesses and diseases have been suspected to be the result of living near oil and gas operations but it is very difficult to prove. The blue pins in our map show accidents at oil and gas operations such as: oil and gas air quality issues, fracking water contamination, methane and hydrogen sulfide leaks, oil trucking and pipeline spills, pipeline explosions, pipeline leaks and oil and gas drilling blowouts. The map crowdsources the data allowing anonymous users to report health and safety issues directly on the map. Oil and gas lawyers will typically make victims of accidents sign confidentiality agreements during the settlement process and we want to know about these locations regardless.
Urbanization of Oil Operations
The urbanization of oil operations has become a controversial topic among residents all over the United States. City Government, oil companies and residents are all batteling to protect their interest. This map shows oil operations such as hydraulic fracking, oil drilling and refining and allows users to report health issues directly on the map for others to review. It is our objective to document health concerns on a map and leave it up to the scientists and readers to make their own conclusions.
